Free admission. Kaua`i Coffee Company began in 1987 as part of an effort
by McBryde Sugar Company to diversify. After almost closing its doors
in the aftermath of Hurricane Iniki in 1992, Kaua`i Coffee has rebounded
and now has a 3,400-acre plantation of Arabica coffee that creates five
million pounds of coffee each year. This is the single largest coffee
estate in Hawai`i and has about 60% of the Hawaiian coffee market. You
can taste free samples of several types of coffee and there’s also
a snack stand where you can get sandwiches and see a video on how coffee
is grown, harvested and roasted. Don’t forget to buy some coffee
for yourself to take home in the gift shop.
