Kauai West Shore - WaimeaIsland of Kauai
Adventures on Water - Fishing
There are some options for freshwater and saltwater fishing on the west side of Kaua`i. Before, you get started, you need to make sure that you have the proper licenses and requirements fulfilled. You can go online to get a freshwater fishing license at www.ehawaii.gov/dlnr/fish/exe/fresh_main_page.cgi. You fill out the information, print and sign and you’re all set. If you don’t get a chance to do this before you leave for your
trip, Westside Sporting Goods, at 9681 Highway 50, At Koke`e State Park, you can go freshwater fishing
in the Pu`u Lua Reservoir in Koke`e State Park. It’s
stocked with rainbow trout. You should have a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to
get to the reservoir. The season is very restricted. You can fish in the
area from the first Saturday in August and then the next 16 consecutive
days. After that, you can only fish on Saturdays, Sundays and state holidays.
There is also a bag limit per licensed angler. At press time, the bag
limit was seven. Check with the Department of Land and Natural Resources,
Division of Aquatic Resources office, at For deep-sea fishing, there are plenty of charters that sail out of Nawiliwili
Harbor, and a few sail out of Po`ipu and the north shore. Check the Fishing
sections in the North Shore and Lihu`e chapters.
