Kauai East Shore - Kapa`a & WailuaIsland of Kauai
Adventures on Land - Biking
There are plenty of trails for mountain biking on this side of the island. The Kuamoo-Nounou Trail is a quick singletrack that will give you a good workout. It’s for intermediate to advanced riders as the climbing can be a challenge. The Moalepe Trail can be a fun and potentially sloppy trail. You can get to it from Olohena Road in Kapa`a or you can ride the Kuilau Trail from Keahua Arboretum. If you’re a beginner to intermediate rider, your best bet is to start from the trailhead at Olohena Road. Here, the trail is a doubletrack for the first 1.7 miles. After that, it becomes narrow and muddy, which should please the more advanced riders. Speaking of challenges, don’t forget about the Powerline Trail. If you start from this end of the island, note that you’ll face some tough climbing. You’ll climb almost 1,400 feet before descending into Hanalei Valley. For road riders, you can take a leisurely ride through the back roads of the Coconut Coast on the bike path from Anahola to Lydgate State Park. There’s also a 2½-mile bike path that circles Lydgate Park. This will be a link within the 17-mile Nawiliwili to Anahola bike path, Ke ala hele makalae. The path runs along the beach to the north end of the park, then comes back around. The Kamalani Kai Bridge is located south of the camping area. To rent a bike, you can go to Kaua`i Cycle and Tour,
1379 Kuhio Highway in Kapa`a, Stop by Outfitters Kaua`i, 2827A Po`ipu Rd, Po`ipu,
Coming from Hanalei, you can also rent a bike from Pedal n Paddle,
