Esprit De Corps Riding Academy, 1491 Kualapa Place, Kapa`a, 808-822-4688, www.kauaihorses.com, rides Monday-Friday, with reservations required. They offer trail rides that tend to be geared to riders with some experience. There’s a three-hour ride for $120, a four-hour ride for $160 and a six-hour ride for $250. Esprit de Corps also offers a six-hour ride with meditation for $250. If you’re a novice rider or you want to go at a leisurely pace and take pictures, go for the three-hour ride. For the other rides, you should at least be able to trot and canter. All rides venture through the mountains in Kapa`a and offer unique views of the coast. Lessons and private rides are available.

Keapana Horsemanship, Kawaihau Road, Kapa`a, 808-823-9303, www.keapana.com, offers private rides along public trails such as Sleeping Giant, Moalepe, Kuilau and Powerline. A two-hour ride allows you to choose your trail for $145 per person. There’s a half-day trail that goes through Keahua Arboretum. You’ll have a chance to swim and have lunch. This five-hour tour is $275 per person. You can also do the Powerline Trail, which is an all-day affair, for $375 per person.
